Description: French Sevres Style Hand Painted Urn with Bronze Mounts. c.1880-1895 11 1/4" high. 4 5/8" handle to handle. Exceptionally nice painting of a beautiful woman with her two childrenon cobalt blue ground and gilt details. Concealed Signature on the inside of Urn as shown in last picture.Please do not open these are the onlymarkings which we saw whilst going into tighten fittings and replace the disintegrated cork pads with leather.In future when required the small topfinial can be unscrewed to release all of the parts held together by it. Notes: I have used the more accurate cautionary description for these as "Sevres style" as almostall auction houses title such pieces simply asSevres though 99% of them are not.The Royal Manufactory simply did not make pieces for just anybody and certainly notin those numbers. So the wealthy naturally had to turn to other high quality makers to produce Sevres style things for them,many of which are highly valuable as well.But Christie's and Sotheby's always describethese pieces as Sevres style. If you searchChristie's for Sevres style 3,000 sold pieceswill come up almost all selling in the manythousands.A description from an expert follows:One thing about Sevres is that they were a small factory and their production is verylimited. Also they're marks are by far the most faked of all European porcelain factories.For example if you do a search on ebay for Sevres it usually brings up about 10,000items of which usually only about 100 areactually authentic pieces.
