The case is a pretty waisted shape and has wonderful elaborate ormolu mounts and a fretted brass fretted panel lined in red fabric. The top is finished with a pretty detailed finial and the case is sitting on four brass feet. The dial is convex and is set out with Roman Numerals with Arabic numerals above in a lovely blue which is a nice unusual feature. the dial is covered by a thick convex bevelled glass which is mounted in a brass frame. It is finished with a super pair of shaped period fingers. The dial is then surrounded with the pretty ormolu mounts to the edge of the case and has a shaped fretted panel lined in red fabric below. To the rear the clock has a door which is made from fretted brass which opens to access the movement and allow the pendulum to be hung. The movement is stamped trademark for Japy Freres,which includes the words 'JAPY FRERES & CIE GDE MED D'HONNEUR' and 'MADE IN FRANCE' along wit the numbers '44' and '2256'. Japy Freres was founded by Frederic Japy of Beaucount, who was born in the own of Beaucourt in France 1749, and first made movements for the clock industry at his factory in 1777, in the region of La Franche-Compte. He went on to become the largest and most commercially important clock making concern in France. The clock is happily ticking away and keeping good time and strikes the hours and once on the half past on a gong and the movement is clean as can be seen from the photographs. The clock comes complete with it's double ended winding key which allow the clock to be wound and the fingers to be altered and pendulum. DIMENSIONS The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: - 7.5 inches wide - 5.5 inches deep - 14 inches high AGE: The clock is Victorian and dates to circa 1890 / 1900. CONDITION: The case is in lovely condition as can be seen from the photographs just minor marks commensurate with age and careful use. There is a small chip to the edge of the glass positioned just before 35 which although difficult to see have been photographed close up, please see final image above. The clock is happily ticking away and keeping good time. This pretty bracket / mantel clock and it will grace any room where it is placed, so happy bidding.
