Description: A Letter to a Small Nephew Named Claud Author: ROLFE, Frederick (Baron Corvo) Title: A Letter to a Small Nephew Named Claud Publication: Iowa City: Typographic Laboratory, the University of Iowa School of Journalism, 1964 Description: Paperback. Introduction by Clarence Andrews. 3 copies (identical but for wrappers). Small 4to. Decorative wrappers. (6pp). Small graphics. Fine. Three identical copies (differing only in wrappers) of this letter penned by the eccentric British writer/artist/photographer (1860-1913), "Printed... on the Occasion of an Exhibition of Rolfe Miscellanea Held May 4 to May 15, 1964, at the University of Iowa Library." As rear colophon notes, "One hundred and fifty copies printed from Lydian and Legend types set by Harold Yahnke and Harry Duncan and from linecuts of tracings by Jon Wilson made about half-size of the Rolfe drawings." Sometimes seen in pale blue blank wrappers, we believe that the trio here offered represents three bindings of which 50 each were produced: One with fleurs-de-lis in gold against white, a second with white rectangles against navy blue, a third with elaborate gilt/blue/red pattern -- all three with small paper label. A gorgeous, scarce production. From the collection of a University of Iowa archivist - who would have wanted one copy of each variant produced.
