Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Franklin Mint 1/48 B11B666 JU-52 Swiss JU-AIR IWC Livery - Rare and Mint!!! This model represents the Ju-52/3m with the Swiss registration HB-HOS which was operated by the Swiss civilian operator Ju-Air. JU-Air was founded in 1981 specifically to save three of these aircraft which had just been retired by the Swiss Air Force that had originally acquired them post-WW2. One of these aircraft, HB-HOS, formerly serial A-701 in Swiss Air Force service, was for many years presented in the smart livery of Swiss prestige watch manufacturer, IWC (International Watch Company) Schaffhausen, a company which had been making high quality pilots" watches since the mid-1930s (see photos). With a long standing association with the Junkers Ju 52 and their operation in Swiss service and especially with Ju-Air since their military retirement, this sponsorship arrangement helped to ensure these magnificent aircraft could continue flying long after their extensive military careers had ended. HB-HOS was operated by Ju-Air from Dübendorf alongside HB-HOP and HB‑HOT. Flights on these airplanes were very popular until the loss of HB-HOT and its 20 occupants when it crashed into the western slope of Piz Segnas in the Glarus Alps on 4 August 2018. Plans to put the surviving two Ju 52s back into passenger service subsequently failed. Apparently there are now no original Ju 52s flying anywhere in the world. Ju 52 HB-HOS was aquired by a German museum. Its fuselage was rolled into the hall of the Luftfahrtmuseum Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt, central Germany in April 2003. The interior of the former Swiss Air Force and Ju-Air machine will now be restored to its original 1939 configuration, but, sadly, the museum building isn’t big enough to reattach both wings, although one wing may be fitted in the future. The Franklin Mint released this 1/48 scale model as part of its Armour Collection. It was a rare, limited edition of 400 pieces made almost 20 years ago for Ju-Air and IWC. It is a large model with a length of 15.44” (39.58 cm), wingspan 23.56” (60.42 cm), and a tail height of 3.66” (9.38 cm). It is heavy, about 6 kg, which accounts for the shipping cost. The model is molded in diecast metal and is beautifully finished in early 2000s Ju-Air/IWC livery. It has three free spinning metal propellers, rotating wheels and sturdy metal landing gear struts, a removable section of the cockpit exterior so you can see the cockpit interior (mine originally shipped with the cockpit cover in place), and many more details. All original documentation is included. I purchased the model new. It was removed from the box originally for inspection when I received it but then put in storage for many years. I am now sadly downsizing my collection, so I removed it from its box again for the photos. The photos are of the model being offered for sale here. The model will be shipped securely mounted with the original cable ties and holding screws on its original Styrofoam encasement and Franklin Mint box plus flap cover. The shipping box will be the original Franklin Mint one with a carrying handle. If you have any questions about the model, please ask.
