Description: Travel back in time with this Francois Salzard violin. With a 14-1/8" body and 23-3/8" overall length, it is a 4/4 full-size violin. The inside label reads only "Francois SALZARD." Salzard (1808-1874) was a French in Mirecourt, France. I assume it's a Salzard copy, but do not know for sure. Excellent two-piece flame maple back with a deep quilted pattern. Flame maple sides and neck. Spruce top with fairly tight grain. Bone nut. Cosmetically, it looks good. It is very clean. There are three grain cracks on the top. One goes from under the chin rest but does not reach the f-hole. The other two go from the treble f-hole to the lower bout edge. I suspect two outer grain cracks have either been glued or cleated. The middle grain crack is partially open. No strings. No bridge. No tailpiece. No sound post. No endpin. The side below the endpin is separated from the back. There is evidence of some past glue work around that area too. The pegs and pegholes are in decent round. It comes with a fully-haired bow. The maker is unknown. It comes with an old cake of rosin. It comes in a Bruno violin case. The case's exterior has a faded ASBURY academic sticker. The handle, latches, and hinges work. The outside of the case is quite worn. The inside of the case is lined with maroon velvet and is in very good shape. Who's going to bring this old gem back to life? Questions? It will be well packed with plenty of new 1/2" bubble wrap and shipped in a new 32"x19"x7" stout cardboard instrument box.
