Description: The etching offered here is by the British surgeon, Francis Seymour Haden (1818-1910). Haden was committed to reviving the art of etching and became both a leading proponent and practitioner of the art in the latter half of the 19th century. This print was apparently entitled "Bit of a River" and was published in 1868 in Philip Gilbert Hamerton's "Etchings and Etchers". The print in that work was not signed. The etching being sold here is printed on laid paper with a partial watermark. There is a very similar example in the online collection in the British Museum at No. 1910,0421.110. According to the description given there, that example is signed in pencil below the image, although one cannot see the signature online. This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
