Description: Harcourt, Brace and Company, NY, 1943. First American edition of Eliot's last great poems. A good copy of the second printing of the volume, the first having been stopped at 700 or so copies. "First edition" is not stated on the back of the title page and the rear panel of the dust jacket has six Eliot titles advertised. The dust jacket has some small chipping at the top and spine. There is a little loss at the top of the spine and small closed tears in the upper left corner of the rear panel and lower right corner of the front panel. Overall, a clean jacket with no smudging. Inside, a newspaper article by Karl Shapiro, printed in 1959, has left its mark on the endpapers and a moving dedication to the recipient of this book appears on the flyleaf.
