Description: This magnificent fossil sea urchin Goniopygus sp is from Talsint, Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The fossil dates from the Upper Jurassic and is about 156 million years old. The preservation of this specimen is outstanding as it has silicified. In life, each one of the 'bumps' on the shell, also known as a tubercle, would have had a large spine attached to it. The hole on the top is the apical disc. Goniopygus lived among the rocky outcrops on the sea bed, probably grazing algae off the rocks. The specimen measures 1.33 inches in diameter and is 0.77 inches high. The preservation of this specimen is superb. All of my fossils are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
