Description: Up for auction is a scarce book titled: Flying Officers of the U.S.N. 1917-1919. This First Edition book was from the Naval Aviation War Committee Washington, D.C. This is a larger book measuring 11 inches tall, 8 inches wide and about 1 inch thick. There are 302 pages. I did not see any writing and there are no missing or damaged pages. One page has a small defect near the top. It appears to be an issue in the paper. This book has the history of the naval aviation including aircraft, balloons and ground units/airfields. There's information with information for the Assistant of the US Navy Franklin Roosevelt. This is full of great images showing aircraft, balloons, homing pigeons, aerial photography, parachutes, crashes and airfields. The Memoriam pages list the pilots and aircrew killed during the war. Too many to count who were killed in training accidents. There are two famous naval aviators who for some reason do not have photos I can find. There is Ensign Charles Hammann who was awarded the Medal of Honor during the war and was killed in an accident on June 14th 1919 at Langley Field. He is listed on the Memoriam page. Then there's Lieutenant David Ingalls who was the first and only US Ace from WWI. He was credited with 6 kills. He is listed on page 300 amongst the first 250 US Naval Aviators. He was number 85. Lt. Ingalls was born in 1899 and died in 1985. He served in WWII as well receiving the rank of Lt. Commander and retiring as Commodore. The book looks very good. The corners of the front and rear boards do have inward dings and some wear. There are no odors or stains. It's a fairly tight spine but you can see some separation at the base on a few pages. Nothing traumatic or worrisome. A great book with tons of information and history. Thank you. Sales Tax collected by eBay. What you see is what you'll get. Feel Free To Ask Questions.
