Description: This is an original copper plate engraving, from “ Flora Londinensis” published by William Curtis, of the plants in the London region, in the 18th century. The handcolored engravingswere done by some of the best botanical artists of the day, including such artists as, James Sowerby, William Kilburn and Frances Sansom. This is a Sansom, plate signed engraving, titled “Betonica Officialis” from the first edition, circa 1777. There is some minor foxing outside the plate marks that measure 14 5/8”x 9.25”, with the full sheet measuring 18.5”x 11.25”, that still has the original vibrant coloring. One of the photos shows the hand made paper lines and water marks. I’ve listed other botanical, handcolored engravings, that are matted and ready to frame. Buy a few and save on shipping.
