Description: 3x5 Foot Flag of Western Sahara The flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a combination of the Pan-Arab colors of black, green, white, and red, and the Islamic symbol of the star and crescent. On 27 February 1976 the flag was adopted as the official flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR). The Sahrawi Republic claims sovereignty over the Western Sahara, but this is disputed by Morocco, who control the majority of the territory. Due to this territorial dispute and the limited international recognition of SADR, the flag's representation of Western Sahara is unofficial. Western Sahara is an occupied territory in North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, Mauritania to the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Its surface area amounts to 103,000 sq miles. It is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world, mainly consisting of desert flatlands. The population is estimated at just over 500,000, many of whom live in El Aaiún (also called Laâyoune), the largest city in Western Sahara.
