First Edition BAMBI 'A Life in the Woods' - RARE 1928 American Ed'n ILLUSTRATED

Description: This 96 year old hardcover first edition book is in excellent condition. It was translated by Whittaker Chambers, with a foreward written by John Galsworthy. The artist Kurt Wiese created 25 black and white illustrations plus the frontispiece. The boards and spine are covered in a forest-green cloth. An embossed and gilded image of Bambi adorns the front cover, and the title, author, and publisher are embossed and gilded on the spine. The binding and hinges are solid, and the front cover has just begun to roll. There is minor wear-related fading on the edges of the cover, and the corners show rubbing, but the fabric is intact and the board tips are not exposed or badly bent. The spine has darkened with age, the head and tail caps have minor shelf wear, and some of the gold letters have faded. The orange and green pictorial end-papers are in excellent condition, with a small book seller’s label and an owner’s inscription on the front end-papers. There are 291 pages following the introductory pages, and none are missing, torn, or loose. A few of the first 60 pages have minor stains (as shown in photos) and the page edges have all darkened a bit, especially on the side of the book. The cover has a bit of staining and signs of handling. At the top of the back cover, there is a small chip in the green fabric where the edge has been dented (photo 15). I have tried to clearly and accurately describe the condition, and show most if not all all blemishes in photos, which are considered to be part of the description. This classic book measures 14 cm. x 20.5 cm. (5-1/2 in. x 8-1/8in.) and has been in a smoke-free, pet-free home since 1995. There is no dust jacket.
