The lithograph was hand drawn by the master lithographer Marc Kniebihler. The sheet is printed on Arches paper and was numbered by the publisher XV/XX in pencil lower left with blindstamp lower right. Published in 1990 and purchased directly through a wonderful connection at the Musée Toulouse-Lautrec museum in Albi France more than 25 years ago. I have kept this wonderful lithograph in a climate controlled storage all this time. In overall excellent condition. Colors very vibrant. Never framed before. Frame is for reference purposes only. Printed on all heavy wove Arches paper. Please note that I will ship this flat (not rolled) in a strong box. Shipping is therefore a little bit more expensive. Born on November 24, 1864, in Albi, France, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec pursued painting as a youth and went on to create innovations in lithograph drawing. He became highly famed for his posters, influenced by Japanese styles and Impressionist Edgar Degas, and for imbuing marginalized populations with humanity in his art, including sex workers, as seen in his 1896 print series Elles. Other notable works include At the Moulin Rouge and The Streetwalker. Consumed by heavy drinking and suffering from various illnesses, he died on September 9, 1901, at the age of 36.. Ships without frame. This lithograph should be handled with gloves and utmost care. I suggest not to open it upon arrival but to to take directly to your frame store. Please make sure to use a frame store that has experiencing in handling art, not just standard posters. Tell them the this is an original lithograph, not a cheap poster. Tell them to wear gloves and treat it as an art curator in a museum would. Make sure to have them open it in your presence so you can both agree on the condition when you left it so there are no disputes. Ask if they offer some kind of insurance policy in case they damage it (it has happened). Have it framed with acid-free matting and a plexiglass frame with UV-filter. Tell them to use acid-free hinging tape and preferably as little as possible. These are just my suggestions.
