Slats and Becky finally get married, after years of false starts and missed opportunities. But then Bathless tells them that the "preacher" who married them is actually con man "Bless You" Bailey. Slats is lost in the woods and presumed dead, but is saved from attacking wolves by man-hating cowgirl Kate and her sister Jennie.
