Description: These are my Standard/Oval Shaped Eye Punches These punches are forged from new 5/8-inch round 5160 and are about 9-inches long. These punches are sized for making a nice eye size for 3/4-inch to 2-inch flat or square bar animal heads. Of course, this is subject to personal preference, as to how large or small you like the eyes to be in your work. The sample photos show an eye stamp in 1/4x1-inch piece of flat bar. All of these eye punches are more or less the same size but will vary slightly. These punches are not hardened and tempered. Eye punches should be used on hot steel so there is no need for hardening and tempering. Mild steel should be a dark cherry red or hotter for eye punching.
