I've been designing my own speaker boxes for my production company for close to 20 years. This box resulted in my need for a small PA speaker for point source type work that could also scale for larger events. My FCS12LAP is similar to the JBL932LAP. Both 1600W boxes have 12-inch woofers and three horns. Both have integral flying hardware and are multi-angle pole mountable. Differences; The FCS12LAP is 7 pounds lighter, also less deep. That makes it a lot easier to lift onto a speaker Pole. Power amps wise they’re essentially the same but the FCS12LAP draws 5 Amps of electric, the JBL is 6 Amps (you could run 4 FCS12LAP on one 20-amp circuit. The most important difference is that the FCS12LAP sounds better than the JBL. Both boxes have a digital speaker processor built in. I have no idea what JBL was thinking when they tuned their 932. I had a high dollar touring sound guy come to my warehouse with a black belt in SmartLive. We set the speaker up with a real time analyzer and wrote the program to send to the manufacturer. We didn't program the speaker box to “sound good” necessarily but to be flat. Meaning not a bunch of spikes and dips in the frequency response of the speaker. When you plug in a JBL it is bitingly bright in the 2.5k area. You have to EQ the hell out of it at your console to even get to a good starting point. You won't have to do that with the FCS12LAP. A couple cuts to tune to your desired sound and you'll be set. In a nutshell the FCS12LAP sounds way better than the JBL932LAP. The JBL can sound as good, but it takes a lot of tuning to get there. Side story that’s relevant. I had four JBL932LAPs. I listed them for sale. I had the JBL and the FCS boxes on poles side by side. EVERY person that came for the JBL ended up buying the FCS boxes. I sold my first 40 boxes in one month with the JBL as bait. I finally sold the JBL when I ran out of FCS stock. True story. Reliability: I have sold 20+ FCS12LAP. I have had no issues. When I first decided to stock and market the box, I purchased back up power amp modules, 12in speakers, horn diaphragms, basically every part that could possibly go wrong to support the line. I have thousands of dollars’ worth of these parts on a Shelf. I have never sold one. Not one! Bottom line, the speaker is very reliable.
