This final result is this crazy, romantic creation that almost feels a little magical when I look at it. I think this is probably my favorite metal cast piece that I’ve ever done and that saying something because I don’t like to play favorites with my creations! The inspiration comes from nature and how everything is now just blooming again in the southwest. I didn’t have much of a green thumb to start with and since I travel a lot for the art fairs it’s almost impossible for me to keep a garden in the hot Phoenix summers. I always dreamed that someday I would have a lush, colorful garden with flowers that would bloom year round. The different design elements were casted individually and then soldered onto the 3 strand mesh chain to create the final look. Swarovski crystals were glued into the components after casting with E-6000 jewelry glue for a sturdy hold. ♥♥♥ Measurements ♥♥♥ - Large center rose component measures 1.5 inches across - Entire necklace measures 17.25 inches long with a 3.0 inch extender - This piece weights approximately 7.0 oz (1.0 lb = 16.0oz). ♥♥♥ How Is It Made ♥♥♥ Each creation in my statement collection is made using a complicated mold cast process. I like to sketch awhile before I start so a lot of these pieces actually got started in the summer. I usually only cast metal pieces in the winter and spring because they are all done in my well ventilated garage and it's like 120 degree in Phoenix from June-Sept so it can get quite unpleasant! Each individual pewter component is casted individually and then polished, soldered or strung together to create the final look. The whole thing is then plated with a very thin layer of my own blend of sterling silver and rhodium (rhodium prevents tarnishing). I use to do the plating by dipping the entire piece in the molten hot silver mixture but that was very messy. Now I just air spray it on for a smooth, uniformed look!
