I've had this book for decades, and it was well-cared for, stored away virtually undisturbed in all that time. Before offering it for sale, I carefully took the time to eyeball each page to make sure there was nothing obvious hiding in there that might otherwise be missed. Here is the generally-accepted description of a VG comic book (as you can find on multiple online grading websites): 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. (I include this description so you can refer to it while following along with my observations below.) Surfacemostly flat, only a hint of shine left, and moderately smooth (see details below)Edge Wearmoderate in most places, though the upper edges have more due to the cover being slightly taller than inner pages, resulting in the chipping you seeFolds/Creasesnot much -- some hints of corner folds but nothing seriousWrinklinghardly any in the front -- that side is quite smooth. Back has a bit that prevents it from being totally smoothCornersbluntedPrinting DefectsnoneArrival Stampsthe "AUG 23 1966" is plain enough to the left of KlawSpinespine is actually in better shape than the posted grade -- the book has of course been read, and you can see moderate wear here in the close-up, in-your-face side photos I provide, but as you can tell, most VG-ish copies show more here, so this is in decent shape overallSpine Rollnone -- the book lies pretty flatTears/Splitsno splits -- little staple tears, all within normal for this gradeStaplessome discoloration and a hint of rust -- both still solid and go all the way through to the centerfold. Both attached to cover still, but I recommend caution there if you decide to read this copy.Back coverfaded and somewhat wrinkled; dotted with wear marks and worn spots. Rougher upper edge. Obviously this is the primary reason this got classified as near-reader copy. Some soiling too, but more below...Smudgesholding the book up to the light, I don't see much in the front, though back has many -- to the right of Norman Rockwell extending to the right edge -- you can see that in the photos.Surface build-upback has a good coating of build-up. I don't see any foxing.Inner coversSilver Age tanning evidentPage colorstill off-whitePage conditionpages are still actually in good shape, and all are still attached -- no surprises here.BOTTOM LINEObviously a used copy, and that back side has seen better days. But the nicer front and solid spine, I think help just enough to elevate this copy to just above reader-grade, so I listed it at 4.5. It seems to check all the boxes in the description above, and exceeds it in some areas even, but if that back is too much for you, I get it. Take a good look for yourself, read along with my notes, and make your own call. All quibbling aside, it's without a doubt a lower-grade copy hovering right around "reader" level, so if you're okay with that, then perhaps this might work for you. Where do you get more details or camera angles than what I've provided? ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE! Look at my feedback and you'll see "item as described" posted over and over again! I cannot believe other sellers expect you to make a purchase decision with just one or two photos -- ridiculous -- you always see what you're getting from me!
