Description: Here is an electronically restored, nicely playing original 1934 Philco model 89B cathedral radio just waiting for a new home. This would be a fabulous gift for someone desiring high-end antique ephemera in their design. The 6-tube 115V AC-powered code 123 chassis receives the broadcast (AM) band from 540-1500 kc and shortwave from 1.5 -3.2mc (formerly used for police radio communications in the 1930s). It brings in AM stations loud and clear across the dial. The electronics on this radio were serviced with all components checked and any weak or defective ones replaced in a previous restoration. The radio's wood case also has a vintage restoration, with only minor imperfections and no sign of previous damage or repair. This remarkable radio still retains the original sticker under the lacquer. The cabinet measures 16"H x 13"W x 9 1/2"D, and weighs 20 pounds. It has its original Bakelite knobs, a replacement grill cloth of correct pattern, the original speaker - with some cone loss, an attractive dial with brass escutcheon, and original factory paper labels. All veneer is original and seams are tight. The model 89 chassis was used by Philco in various cabinet styles between 1933-36 in addition to the cathedral seen here (which had 5 versions of its own) including console, chairside, and a Lowboy (smaller) console. The tube chassis had several improvements along the way and this code 123 version incorporated the best of them, adding the shortwave band, 4th knob, and shadow meter. Finding one in this fine condition and restoration is not an easy task. UPC 001484
