Description: Presented is a very cute 18 karat yellow gold pin or brooch in the form of a pufferfish. This piece dates to around the 1960s-1980s and was made in France. The fish is depicted in a charmingly stylized way, puffed up into a cute round spiky ball and with almost a smiling expression. The eyes are round cabochons of real mined from the ground ruby, complementing the rich yellow 18k gold very nicely. This pin has a double shaft type back, but only one of the shafts has a clasp to go into, which is a capped kind you pull out gently to unlock. This is an exceptionally well constructed and high quality piece, made in solid 18 karat gold; the quality and attention to detail suggest a high end maker like Cartier, but it is unfortunately not signed, only hallmarked. This piece is in excellent condition. The clasp works well and closes securely. This pin is stamped 'In France' on the back of the tail. There is a small French hallmark on one of the pin shafts, with a counterstrike on the other side, indicating it is a purity stamp, but it is illegible. This piece has been tested with nitric acid and is guaranteed 18 karat gold purity. The pin measures about 1 1/2 by 1 1/8 inches.
