Description: LIVING ESTATE SALE (Details at the end of description) MA/AI For your consideration is a Wilesco D8 Live Steam Engine made in Germany in the mid 1980s. This is the best toy for boys, men and tomboys !The D8 is an excellent choice as a first live steam engine. It is a simple engine that is easy to operate and maintain while demonstrating how a steam engine works. This is a nice small size engine capable of operating an accessory. This engine is in very good/excellent condition. It has been air tested (video) and should not give much trouble to operate on steam. Sometimes, an older gasket has dried up, needing replacement. Hopefully, that won't be the case.It certainly runs very smoothly ! This engine is 100% complete, including the original box.Actually, as the Wilesco boxes notoriously don't age very well, this one is in pretty good condition. It is also 100% original. There are two things to report : - The burner tray has been re-soldered (photos). It was well done. - There is one corner of the base that has a slight dent. I missed it and only saw it on the pictures after the engine was already packed and ready to ship. It is a 15 seconds fix. My apologies for missing it. This Live Steam Engine is very gift-able.In fact, if you are planning the purchase of a new D6 (not recommended) or a new D10 (recommended) with the intention of firing it, save quite a few bucks and get this one. A new one won't look any better after a couple of firings. As for the whitish residue on the water level sight, it comes from the calcium in tap water. That's the main reason to use distilled water. It would typically clean up by boiling a mixture of (distilled) water and vinegar. Adding some CLR also helps. You will need some solid fuel (anywhere camping supplies are sold) and using solely distilled water is very strongly recommended. This model was (unfortunately) discontinued by Wilesco a while back and the closest similar engine is the D10 that is a bit larger. https://www.wilesco-shop.de/en/stationary-steam-engines/d10-steam-engine.htmlA new D10 is currently 236.50 Euros (US$250).A new D8 would probably a bit over $200. Please select the shipping system that suits you best. Condition : This Live Steam Engine is in a very good / excellent condition. It is over 40 years old and has been fired a few times but they hardly come any better than that. It has been air tested (video) and should not give much trouble to operate on steam. It is complete, including the original box and it is 100% original. Two things : the burner tray handle was re-soldered (photos) and there is one corner of the base slightly bent. I would rate it a solid C7. VERY IMPORTANT : I am offering four UPS shipping options. You can check the cost by clicking next to shipping on "See Details" or make your choice at take-out. The default is UPS Ground as Expedited Shipping can be expensive and is not necessarily more reliable. Please keep in mind that I do not control the cost of shipping that is calculated by eBay.Free pick-up is always available (Rock Hill, SC). After having several issues with USPS, I am not offering their service any longer, but, if you insist, I will ship USPS. Just know that the reliability for the arrival at destination in a timely fashion has been very poor as of late. LESS IMPORTANT : Items are packed and ready for shipping when I make the listing. Combined shipping cannot be done if one item is larger than 8 x 8 x 8 packed. If it is possible, smaller items can be combined upon request prior to the payment. Guarantee : Item is guaranteed to be as described. I am a very honest seller hoping to deal with honest buyers. If I know something is wrong, I will disclose it but I certainly can make an honest mistake and will do my very best to correct it. Warning : Many of these older collectibles are not in compliance with today's safety standards. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine whether or not they are still suitable for their intended purpose. Adult supervision is indispensable with any steam engine. Packaging :Items are packed carefully and should remain undamaged through a standard level of care during handling. LIVING ESTATE SALE DETAILS :I had my first steam engine when I was 9 years old. That was 65 years ago. I have been collecting them for 25 years and I am now 74. None of my descendants is interested in the collection, so I decided that it was time to liquidate. As of December 2024, I still have over 1,300 engines of all kinds to list. I believe in full disclosure. It takes me about an hour to list one item, between the assessment, the testing, the video, the photos, the description and the very careful packaging. I try to have very reasonable prices. At comparable quality, my prices are probably the lowest on the market.
