Description: European Polish Solid Silver Marked Cake Bread Basket Bowl 13 loth, made c1820 Presented is a beautiful bread or cake basket with marks for European or Polish solid silver. This beautiful basket is a delicate arrangement of hand soldered pieces and rest on four ball feet with a wheat stalk surround a fleur de lis and shell trim and two stunningly articulate handle comprised of a green man’s or fauns face surrounded by two long necked geese. The maker’s mark is indeterminate and is marked 13 loth or 812 ½ fine silver, American standard sterling silver is 925, so there is slightly less silver in this alloy. This is a beautifully artful and detailed piece with some minor dings and warping of frame from bending and use as well as a breaking of rim pattern surround and scratches from use and care but has no monogram and only a scratched identifier on the bottom just above the hallmarks close to bottom rim. I have left this piece unpolished for its patina and age. I have an interesting assortment of items listed so please look at my other auctions.
