Its twofold structure is designed to accommodate shorter, article-length manuscripts in the traditional journal style and longer, book-length works up to approximately 100 pages, which will appear as separate monographs within the series. Publications appear at least twice annually, generally in the spring and fall, and more frequently when good scholarly manuscripts are available. The series is numbered consecutively for each year, and the last issue includes a comprehensive index. The LeRoy R. Hafen Award, which carries an honorarium of $100, is given for the best essay published in Essays and Monographs during a given year. As always, the Colorado Historical Society encourages unsolicited submissions. The publications of the Society generally follow the principles and conventions of the Chicago Manual of Style, and an authors' guide is available on request. Manuscripts and queries should be addressed to: Publications Office, Colorado Historical Society, 1300 Broadway, Denver CO 80203.
