MAX TPC A/B is composed of glass microspheres or micro-balloons dispersed in a thixotropic epoxy-based resin system. This is known in the composites industry as a syntactic foam system. This resin system is also known as a syntactic foam in composites fabrication. It is used for honeycomb corefill, splicing and edge closeout MAX TPC A/B is a low density patching compound demonstrating high compressive strength, dimensional stability, and abrasion durability. It is suitable for continuous submerged applications and can withstand repeated temperature cycling(-10°C to 110°C) without cracking shrinking or delaminating from the applied substrate. MAX TPC A/B cures to a tough but easily sandable compound suitable for patching gauges, cracks, on composites wood or metal hulls or as an adhesive for lightweight applications. MAX TPC A/B can be used to fill in voids, divots or depression on concrete, Styrofoam, plastics and other substrates. It can also be used as a filler compound for cavities caused by wood rot damage.Other applications such as a low-density adhesive or filleting compound are also an excellent application for MAX TPC A/B. Usage And ApplicationDetermine the volume of resin and curing agent needed for the repair needed. If filling a cavity greater than 1 quart or 32 ounces of volume, prepare several batches of no more than 10 ounces per batch to avoid an exothermic heat build-up. Subsequent batches can be applied after allowing the previous batch to cure and cool the apply the next layer directly. Measure out two parts of PART A to one part PART B and gently mix for several minutes or until uniform in consistency. Transfer the mixed compound into another container and mix for another minute; this will ensure a thorough mixture. The mixed consistency is similar to mayonnaise. Clean and remove any loose material from the repair area and sand the surface to ensure the best adhesion. Use an acetone wipe to clean the area from any contaminants. Apply using a brush, spatula or inject into a cavity. It has a 30 minute working time and can be sanded after 24 hours of cure time. Handling strength will develop in 10 hours of room temperature curing and will fully cure within 24 to 36 hours. Exposing the gelled repair to mild heat (<200°F) will reduce cure time and can be sanded. One spot was rusted and close to unusable below the Cabriolet cover at the drip line on the rear quarter panel. The MAX TPC A/B did an outstanding job! I have spoken to several paint and body professionals and they agree that the MAX TPC A/B is a great product. They said it beats Bondo by a mile and will last a lifetime. I found the material mixed well and the hardener is great. The next morning I was able to sand and prime the car. Later I put on the Saxony Red paint and it turned out beautiful.Great product and keep up the good work. Jerry M. How To Mix Any Epoxy Resin And Avoid Cure Problems Click Window To Watch Video Demonstration SURFACE PREPARATION In virtually every application the surface to which the resin is applied MUST be well prepared to yield good adhesion. The following surface preparation procedures are recommended. METALSDegrease – Wipe laying surfaces with Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) or acetone to remove all oil, dirt, and grease. Etch – For optimum results, metal parts should be immersed in a chromic acid bath solution consisting of:Sodium dichromate – 4 parts by weight Sulfuric acid – 10 parts by weightWater – 30 parts by weightThe solution should be held at a temperature of 160°F (71°C), and the parts left immersed for 5 to 7 minutes. Rinse – remove metal parts from etching bath and rinse in clean cold water (de-ionized water is recommended). If thoroughly clean, metal surfaces so treated will hold a thin film of water. Dry – To accelerate drying, items to be bonded can be placed in an air-circulating oven. ALTERNATE PROCEDUREDegrease, scour and dry – Often etching as outlined above is not practical. The surface must be cleaned by degreasing as noted above, scouring with an alkaline cleanser followed by rinsing and drying. Degrease and dry – Degrease the surface as noted above, sand or sandblast the surface lightly but thoroughly. Rinse with acetone or Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), and dry.GLASSDegrease – With MEK as above, or with a strong boiling solution of a good grade household detergent. Etch – For optimum results, degreasing can be followed by the chromic acid bath outlined above. WOODSand – Bonding surfaces should be sanded lightly, but thoroughly to remove all external contamination. Clean – Carefully remove all dust, or particles of wood from sanded areas. A stiff and clean brush or compressed air can be used. PLASTICClean – Remove all dirt, oil, or other surfaces contaminated with detergent sop or degreasing solvent and water, followed by thorough rinsing and drying. A solvent that does not have a detrimental effect may also be used. Sand – Surfaces to be bonded should be sanded lightly, but thoroughly to remove surface sheen. Clean – Carefully remove all dust or particles of plastic from the sanded area. A clean brush, lint-free cloth, or compressed air may be used. The container in which the epoxy and curing agent is mixed is an important consideration when mixing an epoxy resin system. The container must withstand the tenacity of the chemical and must be free of contamination. Most epoxy curing agent has a degree of corrosivity, as a general practice, protective gloves should be worn when handling chemicals of the same nature.
