Description: This listing is for a COPY of my entire EMD Data Card collection on a virgin 32 gb thumb drive. It consists of 600 dbi scans of every data card in my collection. All total, you will get around 450 files representing over 5.5 gb. It is the ultimate reference guide if you elect to try and put together an entire collection of this type of information. I’m guessing that I have over 40 hours invested in this project. I don’t think anyone has ever taken on a task of this magnitude. And in case you’re wondering, my wife has already considered hospitalization in a long-term sanitarium. I’m retired from EMD and have been collecting EMD artwork and related memorabilia for over 40 years. I’ve written numerous articles for Classic Trains Magazine and was featured on an episode of the Antiques Roadshow. Data cards were actually a pretty big deal starting back sometime in the 1930’s – 40’s (maybe earlier with some steam locomotive cards I’ve seen). Railroads issued their own cards that were basically profile photos. EMD had a distinct advantage as they had an entire Styling Group working with the railroads in developing custom paint schemes for their new streamliner locomotives. That became a double-edged sword as EMD had so much original artwork, they really didn’t know what to do with it. Thanks to EMD’s Public Relations Department, EMD utilized this artwork and started issuing data cards, large posters, trading cards, and small wallet sized calendar cards. They even went so far as to allow a local candy company and a local bakery to use the artwork for their own trading cards. The cards you typically see for sale on eBay ended with the GP7 with an occasional card being issued in the 1960’s – 1970’s. I believe the primary reason they were discontinued was because of the cost associated with producing double sided custom sized die cut cards printed on card stock. EMD started producing data cards again in the 80’s but elected to go with a traditional sized 8 ½” X 11” format. They were primarily used at trade shows and by EMD salesmen. Data cards were reintroduced in the early 1990’s and came in sealed packages. Two actually had bubble gum included! EMD ended the series in 1997 with EMD’s 75th Anniversary. I am including a “readme.txt” file with the flash drive that offers a more comprehensive explanation. I will ship this flash drive in a padded envelope via the USPS.
