Description: Elementary Electronics (4), M/J, J/A, S/O, N/D 1980 Morphing Into Science & Electronics ~ VF Condition Elementary Electronics (4), 1980, May/June, July/Aug, Sept/Oct, and Nov/Dec. These four Davis Publications magazines are in 5.5 FN- to 8.0 VF condition (see pics). The first 3 have fairly severe rolling along the right edge and toning on the spine. Otherwise, all 4 have bright colors, no creases, minor wrinkles, no address label, b&w interiors excellent. Each has 84-90 b&w pages. Images show the actual magazines you will get (they are NOT stock photos). Quite an interesting story here. Bill Ziff Sr. and Bernard Davis got together in August 1927 in Chicago to publish Popular Aviation magazine. In April 1936, they named their company the "Ziff-Davis Publishing Company." They published both hobbyist and fiction ("pulp") magazines. In 1956, Bill Ziff bought out his partner, Bernard Davis, and shortly thereafter, Davis started his own magazine publishing company with titles mirroring many Z-D titles. The magazine Popular Electronics, derived from Radio News, was begun by Z-D in 1955 and published until 1985. Copying the format of Popular Electronics, Davis started publishing Elementary Electronics, in 1960. Printed on cheaper newsprint stock, it did modestly well, but never achieved the circulation or reputation of Popular Electronics. With the advent of kit computers in the late 1970s supported by many new magazines, the old traditional radio and electronics magazines were struggling by the early 1980s. In order to compete, Joel Davis (now the CEO of Davis Publications) decided to morph the bi-monthly Elementary Electronics into a DIY computer magazine. His first step was to rename it Science & Electronics, which appears in a box on the covers or Elementary Electronics from Sep/Oct 1980 to June/July 1981 that says "Including Science & Electronics." Then in Jul/Aug 1981, it was renamed Computers & Programming for one issue before it was acquired by my magazine, Creative Computing, Here are the last four 1980 issues of Elementary Electronics with all kinds of interesting projects in the main areas the magazine was covering: electronics in the home, on the road (auto), communications (radio and CB mostly), computers, hi-fi, and lab tests. Take a look at the contents; this is cool, vintage stuff. Who am I? I am David Ahl, and I am finally sorting out and selling my vintage computers, books, and magazines. Many of you know me as the founder, publisher, and editor of Creative Computing, the FIRST personal computing magazine. The magazine was devoted to software, programs, and actual things to do with a computer, not to the hardware or circuit design. I stored a few issues plus some related magazines in my basement for the past 45 years and I'm selling them now; this is the END! Yeah, you can get the contents on line, but there's nothing like holding the physical magazine in your hands. 100% of the proceeds of this sale go to Beyond the Walls (Charity) Make an offer! What do you have to lose? For shipping, I will send the magazines via USPS Media Mail at the lowest current rate to any address in the USA. I'm not like some eBay sellers who build big profits into shipping and screw the buyer. Who am I? My web identity is SwapMeetDave, but I'm actually David Ahl, founder of Creative Computing, ex-editor of Military Vehicles, writer, incurable collector, and Christian. When you have time, take a look at my on-line carnival and flea market at SwapMeetDave.com, which is chock full of new clean jokes, patriotic pics, books, magazines, my bio, handyman humor, and other good stuff. I accept payments by check or PayPal. I ship the day I receive your payment or notification of payment from PayPal. Thank you!
