Description: 1958 Eico HF89a Built by Roger Hug (d.2019) top quality components throughout. Winning bidder will receive Roger’s hand written build detail sheet - the only known one in existence. (He didn’t want it shared until he was gone.) When Roger and I discussed how this amp would be built we agreed on several principles.: 1. Truly fine power tubes, when purchased as a matching sleeve are getting exorbitantly expensive. Set the engineering adjustments to make performance be solid, but not overdriven. Tube longevity! 2. The EICO design allows the change of the single 12AX7 to be a simple method of adjusting the amp’s personalty, or flavor. To this end, I will provide a smorgasbord of 12AX7 tubes so any tube rolling won’t demand bias and plate voltage adjustments. Keep it simple! 3. Rebuild and revitalize all of the components. If you know what you are looking at in the pictures, you will spot the evidence in the “underneath” pictures. Otherwise, retain the original outward aesthetic. EICO equipment presents as laboratory, rather than a triumph of modern design for a well-heeled audiophile shelf. The money goes where it matters: iron and copper windings. This has FABULOUS output transformers. 4. Make smart choices in internal components. Insure the character of the amp’s performance, also insure that it will age with grace. 5.
