His natural abilities in art were noticed early and garnered much attention while he was still a high school student; which led to his first one man show at the age of 17 in a prominent New Hope, Pennsylvania gallery. Following his very early success, Lupper studied at Parsons, Art Institute of San Francisco, the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA, and San Francisco State College. In 1963, Lupper was awarded a prestigious fellowship at the Huntington Hartford Foundation in California. With the support of the foundation, he was able to create a body of work that earned him a major one-man exhibition at the Elayne Marquis Gallery in Miami, Florida. The exhibit sold out in a few days and launched him on a full time career as an artist. Having spent 43 years of his career in San Francisco, Edward moved to the Palm Springs area where he resided until his death.
