Edited for radio play, the song hit #13 R&B in the U.S. The album, which also featured the dance classic “Date with the Rain,” was #13 on the Soul LPs chart as well, and set the pace for the following Kendricks albums. The cover photo, taken by Philadelphia soul musician Weldon Arthur McDougal III, reworked the famous Eldridge Cleaver-shot portrait of Black Panther leader Dr. Huey P. Newton.
