ED WYNN - AUTOGRAPH SENTIMENT SIGNED 1930 - HFSID 511 ED WYNN Signed "Best Wishes" by the popular actor and comedian in 1930, with a 3x1¾ image of him as Simple Simon from the early 1930s Broadway revue Simple Simon affixed Autograph sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/Ed Wynn/1930". Black ink notations underneath photo and at bottom right corner in unknown hand. 4¾x8½ album leaf. With a 3x1¾ b/w printed photo of Wynn affixed. According to the notations on this leaf, Wynn signed this on Nov. 12, 1930 and identify the photo of him as Simple Simon. Wynn starred in Simple Simon, a revue that ran from Feb. 18, 1930 to June 14, 1930 and from March 9, 1931 to March 21, 1931 on Broadway. He also co-wrote the book and produced it in its second incarnation; the first was produced by Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr. of Ziegfeld Follies, and both had music by Richard Rodgers of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The revue concerned a Coney Island news dealer who dreamed of living in the world of fairy tales. On April 26, 1931, Ed Wynn (1886-1966), born Isaiah Edwin Leopold, made his first appearance as Texaco's "Fire Chief" before a live radio audience. His popular radio series The Texaco Fire Chief ran from 1932 to 1935. He later starred in CBS's first Los Angeles-based variety show, The Ed Wynn Show, from Oct. 6, 1949 to July 4, 1950. The show won the first Emmy Award for "Best Live Show" in 1949, and it would also win a Peabody Award. Wynn won the first Emmy for Most Outstanding Live Personality. He later appeared as Albert Dussell in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959), which earned him a 1960 Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor, and in the TV movie Requiem for a Heavyweight (1956) with son Keenan Wynn.
