Description: Easton Press leather edition of Ernest Hemingway's "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," a COLLECTOR'S edition, Introduction by A.E. Hotchner, Illustrated by Richard Powers, one of the COLLECTED WORKS OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY series, published in 1990. Bound in chocolate brown leather with an elephant in the center of the front board, the book has acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, the book has camel tan moire silk end leaves, satin book marker, hubbed spine, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition---except for a 'blank' attached bookplate on inside fly leaf. Ernest Hemingway, who lived from 1899-1961, grew up in Oak Forest, Illinois, the son of a medical doctor and a musical---but domineering mother. Hemingway was married four times: Hadley Richardson, his Arkansas wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, Martha Gellhorn, and Mary Hemingway. Hotchner wrote in the Introduction: On July 3, 1955, I went to visit Hemingway at his house in Key West. Ernest was living in Cuba, but he had come to Floride where he had lived with Pauline, his second wife, in the 1930s, for a brief visit. It was an elegant house in a seedy neighborhood, a house that was, for Ernest, filled with memories. But I find I'm black-assed in this house because Pauline is dead now and this house is full of memories of the good times and of the kids where they were young and a real part of my life and of the times I worked good in the bedroom here. This is where I wrote "The Snows of Kilimanjaro," upstairs here, and that's as good as I've any right to be. . ." Selections include: "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber," "The Capital of the World," "Old Man at the Bridge," "Up in Michigan," "One Trip Across," "The Tradesman's Return," "Nobody Ever Dies," "The Good Lion," "The Faithful Bull," "Get a Seeing-Eyed Dog," "A Man of the World," and "An African Story." 133 pages.
