Aesop, who lived from 620-560 B.C. about 600 years before Christ. Aesop knew a man named Iadmon who owned a black slave. Not all slaves were black. The blacks, so far as was known then, came only from Ethiopia. This slave was known as Aesop. Ladmon efified the little tales he heard from his master. Aesop was hunchbacked, ugly, with a broad flat nose and thick lips but he was wise. His master sold Aesop to a wealthier master. Eventually Aesop was owned by the Emperor Croesus and he sent Aesop to Delphi to carry back certain sums of money. Aesop's fables spread from country to country and from language to language. Although many of the fables have morals appended to them, they still leave room for interpretation. This volume includes his most famous fables, including "The Ass and the Lapdog," "The Fox and the Stork," "The Hart in the Ox-Stall," "The Lion and the Mouse," "The Man, the Boy, and the Donkey," and "The Fox and the Goat," and several others. Jakob Grimm lived from 1785---1863 and his brother, Wilhelm Grimm lived from 1786-1859. They were professors and students of old German literature. The brothers spent thirteen years accumulating the folk tales from various sources. A few of the famous stories include: "Cinderella," "Clever Elsie," "The Wolf and the Fox," " "Hansel and Gretel," "Little Snow-White," "The Peasant's Wise Daughter," "The Seven Ravens," "Faithful John," "The Bremen Town-Musicians," "The Girl Without Hands," "One Lady's Child," "Rumpelstiltskin," "The Goose-Girl," "Hans in Luck," "The Three Spinners," "Hansel and Gretel," and others. Hans Christian Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling," "Little Ida's Flowers," "The Wild Swans," "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Sea Maid," "The Flying Trunk," "The Buckwheat," "The Nightingale," "The Darning-Needle," "The Storks," and others. 383 pages---a MAGNIFICENT volume!
