Early Performance Orchestra Album Music Book 1 for Trombone

Description: I selected the Baritone horn instrument while participating in the music program at Curtin Elementary School in Altoona, PA. I started to take formal music lessons in September 1968 from Mr. Dellaposta who played in several Italian bands at the Cesare Battisti Club in Altoona, PA. He provided instruction for brass instruments and the piano. In addition to playing Baritone, I started to take Trombone music lessons from Mr. Dellaposta in the fall of 1974 in order to play this instrument in the Altoona Area High School Orchestra. Prior to starting these lessons, my Mom purchased this Early Performance Orchestra Album Music Book 1 for Trombone at the Russell Music Store in Altoona, PA. Upon completion of high school, this music book was placed in a sealed plastic bag within an air tight plastic container and stored with all my other band music books and other sheet music that I collected over the years in my parents’ house in Altoona. While clearing out my childhood home for sale after the death of my final parent in May 2006, I came upon this plastic container and brought it back to our Manassas, VA home. I retained this container for over 15 plus years; however, upon relocating from Manassas, VA to Fort Myers, FL the condominium we purchased in Fort Myers does not have the adequate closet or storage space to indefinitely retain this high school music collection. Subsequently, I have decided to post these music books and sheet music for sale on eBay. The next item for sale is this Early Performance Orchestra Album Music Book 1 for Trombone. The front cover is shown in the first attached high resolution photograph. Its graphic design, choice of colors and layout of text is reminiscent of the visual arts used in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. The top left hand corner of the cover displays the instrument in red text: “TROMBONE” within a rectangular pink box. A similar pink box is at the top right hand corner and exhibits the following red text: “BOOK 1”. In between these boxes is my name “Michael Vahey” that was written by my Mom. The top portion of the cover displays the title in the following red text: “Early Performance ORCHESTRA ALBUM” and “Arranged and Edited by LENNIE NIEHAUS and VERNON LEIDIG”. The lower center portion of the front cover exhibits the “Contents” as shown in the photograph. The bottom center portion of the front cover exhibits the black business stamp with the following text: “RUSSELL MUSIC STORE, (listed phone number), 1724 12th AVE, ALTOONA, PA.”. The bottom left side contains pricing in red text from the late 1960’s and early 1970’s within a slightly shaded red box. The bottom right side exhibits the publisher in the following red text: “HIGHLAND MUSIC COMPANY 1311 NORTH HIGHLAND AVENUE HOLLYWOOD 28 CALIFORNIA” within a pink shaded box. The width of this music book is approximately 9 inches wide and its height is 12 inches high. Its thickness is approximately 2/16 of an inch thick. This music album’s copyright is 1962. Note: The front cover has some minor hand grime and blemishes from carrying and opening the pages within the music book. The rear side of the front cover provides a brief summary on the musical selections in this album as shown in the second attached high resolution photograph. This section also provides a short narrative on the two arrangers “Lennie Niehaus and Vernon Leidig”. The “Instrumentation” section listed all the various instruments that support these arrangements. The music composition #1 MARCH FROM JOSHUA” and #2 “SANCTUS” are exhibited on page 1 as shown in the third attached high resolution photograph. The music composition #3 TWO FAMOUS WALTZES” is exhibited on page 2 as shown in the fourth attached high resolution photograph. The music composition #4 CHINESE GARDEN” and #5 “REAPER’S SONG” are exhibited on page 3 as shown in the fifth attached high resolution photograph. Note: There are some notes in pen on this page that were written by my music teacher. The music composition #6 “STATELY DANCE” and #7 “EARLY AMERICAN TUNE” is exhibited on page 4 as shown in the sixth attached high resolution photograph. Note: The two staples on the center spine have surface rust. The music composition #8 “INDIAN PRAYER AND DANCE” is exhibited on page 5 as shown in the seventh attached high resolution photograph. Note: The two staples on the center spine have surface rust. The music composition #9 “CIRCLE DANCE” is exhibited on page 6 as shown in the eighth attached high resolution photograph. The music composition #10 “ENGLISH CAROL” and #11 “ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH” is exhibited on page 7 as shown in the ninth attached high resolution photograph. The music composition #12 “THE ALARM CLOCK” is exhibited on page 8 as shown in the tenth attached high resolution photograph. The inside of the rear cover contains four musical compositions under the “HIGHLAND MUSIC ORCHESTRA SERIES” as shown in the eleventh attached high resolution photograph. The top of the rear cover exhibits the following red text: “ORCHESTRAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES Arranged by TRUMAN HUTTON”. It also contains the four following music compositions: “BOURREE AND MUSETTE, MINUET, BOHEMIAN DANCE and AN ENGLISH FOLK SONG”. Along the bottom contains the name of the publishing company: “Highland Music Company 1311 NORTH HIGHLAND AVENUE - HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA 90028” as shown in the twelfth attached high resolution photograph. As shown in the previous photographs, this music book’s exterior front and rear covers are in very good condition and the individual music composition pages are in excellent condition. There is some minor surface rust on the three staples on the band book’s spine. This music book of original compositions would make an excellent addition for the novice or professional musicians or music collectors.
