Description: Offered for sale is a human effigy jar (with goatee) from the earliest days of Mata Ortiz pottery. The pottery of this period was intentionally fashioned to mimic prehistoric Casas Grandes pottery. The painted decoration is still in very good condition; however, the opening at the back of the head has been damaged with some pieces missing. The bottom holds a collector's identifying sticker, and there are fire clouds indicating traditional pit firing. The effigy jar is 7 inches high with a diameter of 6 1/2 inches.
