Description: Maker: This beautiful finely painted porcelain trinket box is by the renowned Japanese maker Morimura Nippon, precursor to the equally renowned Noritake. Design: This lovely little box is classically designed, rich in detail and superbly crafted, featuring beautifully painted pink cabbage roses roses in cartouches outlined in gold moriage against a vivid green and pure white porcelain background. Age: The magenta mark on the base is a slight variation of a Nippon mark that came into use in 1891. That mark has the word "Nippon"; the mark on this box has the word "Japan". Source: Collector's Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain by Joan Van Patten. Condition: The trinket box has light wear throughout and four nicks or small chips on the edges, none of which are visible when the lid is in place. Three small ones are on the upper edge of the base and a larger one is on the lower edge of the lid. Size: The box is 3 1/4 inches wide and about 2 inches tall. It weighs 5.5 ounces. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
