Description: Here's one of the oldest pontiled Turlingtons Balsam bottles I've dug in my 50 years of digging...dug from an 1820s privy pit in New Orleans ....... .... THE / KINGS / PATENT (emb on front)..TUR / LING/TONS /BALSAM emb on back......Open Pontil....crude thin flared lip....aqua ....2 5/8"tall....Good condition with only one small shallow flake on underside edge of flared lip; no other damage. A dug bottle with light overall haze. I made no attempt to clean this bottle or polish it....rinsed it out in water is all. The embossing is good. This is a wonderful example of early pontiled Turlington Balsam medicine bottle. We dug it from an early 1820s "blackglass pit" with dark blue pearlware and sealed blackglass wines ,etc. I've decided to part with some of my collection so here's your chance to get a crude early pontiled Turlington bottle from The Digger Dave Collection...haha.....
