The Story: In 1942 occupied France, a Jewish refugee (Isabelle Huppert) marries a soldier to escape deportation to Germany. Meanwhile a wealthy art student (Miou-Miou) loses her first husband to a stray Resistance bullet. At the liberation of France she meets an actor, gets pregnant, and marries him. The two women meet at their children's school in Lyon in 1952 and the intensity of their relationship strains both their marriages to the breaking point. Comments: Director Kury tells the story of her own parents, and of two women whose lives gradually become entwined so that each can fully bloom. The story includes their meeting their husbands, becoming disillusioned with them and then discovering each other. Told from a daughter's viewpoint, it is the story of her parents' struggles with who they are, their relationships with each other and with significant others. This film is a reminder of the ways our lives are thrown together and how that intertwines with the choices we make. The result is a bittersweet love story on more than one dimension. Per the label, the film has 112 minute running time and is presented in widescreen letterboxed format; with French audio with optional English subtitles. This movie-on-demand MOD archive title on recorded media is new and factory sealed. The DVD disc is Region 1, NTSC format, specifically designed to play on DVD players in North America.
