Description: We date this splendid mounted photograph to 1896. Image: 7" x 9"; mount - 10" x 12". We believe this photograph was taken in Dunkirk, Indiana on, or sometime prior to, Election Day Tuesday November 3, 1896. Many of the parked carriages are sporting American Flags. One of the carriages has a large sign attached to its back; it reads, "OUT of WORK", a common condition during the depression of 1893 - 1897. We don't know if this photo was taken during a political campaign meeting or on election day itself; we suspect the latter. There is very faint photographer's imprint to the back. The only word that we can make out is "DUNKIRK". A partially obstructed street sign attached to the brick building reads, as best we can make out, "E. Center". There is an East Center Street in Dunkirk, to this day. A pair of very tall smokestacks are visible in the distance near the left side of the photo. These might very well have been part of the one of Dunkirk's many glass factories. The name "Blanch Bouman" is written across the back. We have not been able to identify her. Although the mount is heavily stained and toned, it is still sturdy. The large photographic image is in excellent condition. Please review the preceding important condition description box and photo gallery. The photograph will be shipped well protected in a sturdy box. Free shipping.
