ALTERING BRAIN WAVESCDBR accomplish this by altering brain wave patterns to mimic a light level of sleep. It is further hypothesized this reduces the neural respiratory drive.The use of CDBR is almost accidental to respiratory care, since the treatment was originally developed to assist drug and alcohol addiction patients with their withdrawal symptoms. Its pulmonary application in the early 1990s provided patients with a relaxation bonus while encouraging almost spontaneous breathing as well.In short, CDBR can be termed a form of biofeedback, pulmonary style.Manufactured by RFB Technology, Deerfield, Fla., the system begins to work as a caregiver places an infrared sensor on the patient's abdomen. The sensor measures the degree of muscle excursion during breathing and translates this data in the form of beeps and light flashes to a Star Wars-looking headset worn by the patient.
