Sanford Co. Cookware was cast in Japan then enameled in Belgium, hence the "Made in Beligum" stamp.Julia Child endorsed DESCOWARE and popularity climbed. The Smithsonian installation on Child's work features her stove and a large DESCOWARE pot. It is in the Smithsonian.Well-loved for it's lighter weight compared to other enameled cast iron, roughly 35% lighter weight.Le Cruset purchased DESCOWARE in the mid 1970's and manufacturing ceased. but you already knew all that.
