Degoogled Motorola One 5G Ace 64GB LineageOS /e/OS De-Googled Phone Excellent

Description: This is a Motorola One 5G Ace with LineageOS with MicroG installed. Please include a message at checkout if you would like /e/OS. You can message me too if that note box isn't working while you check out for some reason. Condition: Screen looks excellent and has no wear that appears when the screen is on. Comes with a screen protector preinstalled. It's hard to photograph, but the tempered glass screen protector is cracked at the very top left. The crack is in the protector, not the screen, and I didn't bother removing it because the issue is so minor. Body has light cosmetic wear Battery tested about 90% health 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM This phone comes with a case as well. This model is unique because it comes with both a headphone jack and a microSD card slot. Choosing an OS: Every OS available for this model is based on LineageOS, so they all share some characteristics in common. One quirk with LineageOS is that yearly Android version updates (like 12 to 13) can't be done over the air, so that's something you'll either have to live with or learn how to use ADB to solve. I offer a mail-in service to do this, but I'd rather avoid this as it's not good operational security to send a phone you're actively using to someone on the internet in principle. However, if you set up the security on the phone correctly, it would be safe. People sometimes over-exaggerate how important it is to have the absolute newest security fixes. Even with a phone that hasn't received updates for several years, the chances of your phone being hacked are close to zero if you only install reputable apps and use your phone like the average person. Getting hacked would usually take government agencies targeting you personally. This is due to the strength of Android's security model. When it comes to MicroG, in my experience having it or not is irrelevant to whether or not 99% or more of apps work. The main reason to include MicroG is so that normal notifications work. If you're the type of person who hates being bothered by notifications and know you won't change your mind, I recommend asking me to flash the phone without MicroG in the note to seller at checkout if you're opting for Lineage OS. If you prefer /e/OS, then I'd recommend you just turn off the functionality in MicroG settings. As far as which of these choices are best for you, I recommend LineageOS for people who prefer the feel of stock or old-school Android. If you prefer the interface of iOS or are coming from an iPhone, I'm amazed how similar the developers of /e/OS have made their OS feel to that experience in most ways. /e/OS also has some theoretical benefits like avoiding Google's GPS servers for some location functionality, but in practice this makes no difference for privacy if you're maintaining good practices hiding your IP with a VPN. /e/OS also has some cloud functionality offered by their foundation, and that can be an interesting point in favor of it as well. App Compatibility: It is highly recommended to do a healthy amount of research on your specific mission-critical apps and their compatibility with the OSs you might be interested in. In my experience and the experiences of most of my customers, we run into either no issues or very few with the apps we want to use. A few exceptions I can list out to illustrate what owning a degoogled phone is like though are crypto.com's app. There was a post some time ago on the GrapheneOS forums talking about a few apps like this one that look at a very obscure field within Android to make sure the app was installed from the Google Play Store before running at all. Naturally, something we're trying to do with degoogled phones is avoid anything Google including the Play Store like the plague, and using this app without compromising your privacy is something that would take tremendous skill to execute correctly. In other cases, you'll have to experiment with obscure settings and fixes to get some banking apps working like HSBC's. However, the vast, vast majority of banking apps work without any problems at all. I'd say issues like this are virtually non-existent outside of two main kinds of app. The first is financial apps like the two listed above, and the other is ridesharing apps like Uber. While I can't guarantee every single app will work, I've been shocked by how smooth the degoogled experience can be most of the time. Carrier compatibility: This phone is guaranteed to work with T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, US Cellular and all of their MVNOs. As long as you have a physical SIM that's been activated in a stock phone, you should be golden, and I've had success even activating lines on T-Mobile MVNOs in a degoogled phone. The one exception is the AT&T MVNO PureTalk, who appear to have created some way to block any phone with a custom OS from working with their service, at least in the case of two customers I've had over the years. It should be very doable to find another MVNO that uses AT&T if you need their network. If you don't need AT&T, T-Mobile is easily the best carrier for degoogled phones.
