Description: Hi! You're looking at a great condition 5 DVD Box Set which is OUT OF PRINT and the Volume One (comprising the first 33 Episodes) of the animated Television series "Defenders of the Earth" featuring Superheroes FLASH GORDON, THE PHANTOM, and MANDRAKE doing battle with Supervillain MING THE MERCILESS. This 5 DVD Set is in great condition and all five discs play PERFECTLY with some light marks and smudges on the back surfaces of some of the discs (especially discs 1 and 2) which do not affect play and no other significant flaws; the three inner slimline plastic cases have just slight shelfewar and a loose inner spindle on the disc 3 & 4 set (the discs fit perfectly and securely when inside the closed case, but can slide out of their holders when the case is opened), the outer slipcase has a couple of very small tears on the back spine edges, light dings on the tips, a light crease on the upper edge and spine end and just light shelfwear otherwise, and the Episode Guide Booklet and two Bonus Art Cards are present, in FLAWLESS shape, and included in a heavy paper slipcase with a slight ding on the lower right corner but no other significant flaws--the set is NOT a cutout! The Box Set is titled "Defenders of the Earth: The Complete Series, Volume One" and it was issued by SGC Entertainment in 2006 and includes a number of bonus features.Marvel Productions gave an invigorating update to a trio of venerable comic strip heroes in the '80s animated series Defenders of the Earth; though the teaming of Flash Gordon, Mandrake the Magician, and The Phantom did not prove as popular with young viewers as they did some fifty years before (the show lasted just one season, and the Marvel tie-in comic only ran for four issues), the concept clearly had a following, as evidenced by this impressive five-disc set. The series' premise, which takes place in the year 2015, pits space adventurer Flash Gordon against his longtime foe Ming the Merciless, who is again bent on dominating the Earth; to thwart Ming's plans, Flash teams with jungle king The Phantom and spellcaster Mandrake the Magician (whose henchman, Lothar, has been here promoted to fulltime hero status), as well as their respective offspring, to protect the planet.
