Description: PAIR of original mixed media drawings, similarly sized though not identical, one 14" by 18 3/4", the other 15" by 18 1/2", and roughly 22" by 25" as framed, one featuring the 1982 trial of notorious Atlanta child murderer Wayne Williams, the other the 1984 trial of automaker John DeLorean, each signed by the artist, DAVID ROSE (1910-2006). Rose between the early 1970's and mid 1990's became one of the century's best known courtroom artists, his skills sought after by national tv networks. Born near Boston of Jewish heritage, he studied art in Israel and in Boston, going on to work for advertising agencies in Boston and New York before moving to the west coast, where Hollywood found good use for his talents, as animator, illustrator, designer, layout and publicity artist, and art director. His career peaked when his talent and speed in the courtroom, and innate ability to capture the essence of the action and drama with pencils and paper, caught the imagination of the nation. Among the trials he worked were those of Daniel Ellsberg, Patty Hearst, Klaus Barbie, Timothy McVeigh, members of the Manson family, Huey Newton, Rodney King, Roman Polanski, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme. Rose's passing was noted with detailed obituaries, in many newspapers around the country. At least 700 of the artist's drawings now rest in special archives at UCLA and USC, where they will prove a rich study resource for researchers in years to come.
