Dave Ramsey’s Act Your Wage Game

Description: Components: The board will remind one of Monopoly. The expected plastic pawns (4 of them), money, and pair of dice are also present. There are a lot of cards in there too (despite Mr. Ramsey’s dislike of them, especially plastic ones). There are six card classifications: Spend, Save, Give, “Dave Says:”, Debt, and what I will call Situation because I cannot remember the actual label. In general, the components are of a quality similar to what one would expect from an off-the-shelf Monopoly game. Play: Along with some amount of money, each player gets a Situation card and three Debt cards. Situation cards define the player’s socio-economic situation/simulation: occupation, family status (single, married, no. of kids), cost of living expenses, etc. Each Debt card has a debt that the player has racked up: credit card, student loan, car loan, etc. (amounts vary by card). Players start at different corners of the board. They arrange their money under certain categories in an attempt to anticipate the expenses that lie before them before their next pay-cheque. Some expenses are “planned” as all players must pay them when they pass their respective spaces, others are only paid if landed on. A few spaces allow you to collect money. Players take turns rolling the dice and following directions on the board. Most directions have the player draw a card from one of the four piles (Save, Spend, Give, “Dave Says”), so the player then follows the directions on the card, gaining or losing money as per card direction. The goal is to be the first person to pay off all their debts.
