Description: Cumberland is a city in and the county seat of Allegany County, Maryland. It is the primary city of the Statistical Area with a population of 19,076 in 2020. Located on the Potomac River, Cumberland is a regional business and commercial center for Western Maryland and the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. Historically Cumberland was known as the “Queen City”, as it was once the second largest in the state. The only “Potomac Club” I could find was organized in 1904. It had a clubhouse in the old “Perry Mansion” on Carpenter’s Hill in Ridgeley, West Virginia. From its clubhouse had a striking view of Cumberland. Although the clubhouse was in West Virginia, most members were from Cumberland. The club had a boat dock at the foot of the hill in the Potomac River. whilbr The article did not say if it still existed, but it is on this card, published as a Undivided Back, pm 1906. The card is uncredited and is in good condition with a minor crease of the upper left corner and come edge damage middle top but otherwise is in good condition with a clean, clear image of the Club across the Potomac. The reverse is addressed and is clean. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible.
