Description: German naval officer Erich Raeder wrote "Der Kreuzerkrieg in den auslandischen Gewassern" as part of the larger history of the German navy during the First World War, "Der Krieg zur See" (The War at Sea). Published in 1922 in Berlin by E. C. Mittler & Son, it was never published in English. However, the US Office of Naval Intelligence (O.N.I.) translated the book into English for their own use. Titled "Cruiser Warfare in Foreign Waters," this is one of at least 2 copies from the O.N.I. archives. This is a complete translation of Volume 1 only (two other volumes of "Der Kreuzerkrieg in den auslandischen Gewassern" were published in later years). It's a 525 page (single-sided, with 525 pages having text), 8.25"x11" hardcover. The pages are typewritten, with here and there a tipped-in illustration (perhaps removed from the German edition). There are occasional handwritten corrections and marginal notes. There are several folded maps and charts in a pocket at the back. Raeder achieved the rank of Grand Admiral in 1939 and led the German navy during World War II until 1943. The brown cloth boards show rubbing and edge wear, light soiling, scratches to the back, a bump to the spine, call numbers at the spine bottom. The first several pages have various O.N.I. marks and notes. Some pages have small edge tears, others have creases, and the interior is age-toned. The fold-outs and maps in the pocket are torn at various spots.
