Publisher Description This book is a complete translation of Marxs critical commentary on paragraphs 261-313 of Hegels major work in political theory. In this text Marx subjects Hegels doctrine on the internal constitution of the state to a lengthy analysis. It was Marxs first attempt to expose and criticize Hegels philosophy in general and his political philosophy in particular. It also represents his early efforts to criticize existing political institutions and to clarify the relations between the political and economic aspects of society. The Critique provides textual evidence in support of the argument that Marxs early writings do not exhibit radically different doctrinal principles and theoretical and practical concerns from his later work. This edition also includes a translation of the introduction Marx wrote for his proposed revised version of the Critique which he never completed. In a substantial introduction, Professor OMalley provides valuable information on Marxs intellectual development. Author Biography Karl Marx studied law and philosophy at the universities of Bonn and Berlin, completing his doctorate in 1841. Expelled from Prussia in 1844, he took up residence first in Paris and then in London where, in 1867, he published his magnum opus Capital. A co-founder of the International Workingmen s Association in 1864, Marx died in London in 1883.
