Description: This is a wonderful antique PICKLE CASTOR with a Cranberry Opalescent Swirl Jar/insert that looks like a "Candy Cane"! A hand blown piece of art glass - you can feel the raised ribs on the outside of the piece. The silverplate Frame was made by the Meriden Britannia Co. - operated in Meriden, Connecticut from 1852 into the 1930's. This piece dates to the late Victorian period - circa 1890's. It is a double hoop, platform piece with openwork embellishments on the sides & top - a pretty figural flower head as the hook for the tongs - decorated with an embossed floral design around the base and on the bands found on each side. Marked: in a double circle around hanging scales - Meriden B.
