Description: 1860's style woman's white cotton day caps. The caps are available in three designs: long lappets, short lappets and self-fabric or lace trimmed. I have identified the caps by their design and the color of the ribbons. The cap you see is the cap you will receive. If you like a cap but would prefer another color of ribbon I would be happy to change it. All of the caps shown are made with a woven cotton fabric. All of the caps are new and each is one of a kind. Such caps were worn by married women, often as a sign of motherhood, never worn by young girls. They are made with a drawstring in the back to form a bag to contain the hair. The face is framed by lace trimmed lappets, lace or fabric bands, which are decorated with detachable ribbons, which can be easily changed to suit your dress. Older ladies often favored such caps to cover a thinning hair line, modern ladies can cover short hair cuts and unusual colored hair. Caps were worn indoors during the day but also could be worn outdoors under a bonnet. The caps are washable, I recommend removing the ribbons before washing. Long Lappets: Cap #1: The lappets are decorated with arrow ribbons in purple and lavender with loops and lovers knots are set with a pure white ribbon rose with light green loops. The white broderie anglaise fabric is stitched with small four petaled flowers and loops of stitching. The cap and long lappets are edged with white, ruffled cotton lace. Cap #2: The white fabric has tiny eyelet-style flowers with waves of stitching. The cap and long lappets are edged with white ruffled cotton lace. The sides are decorated with medium pink 1" wide satin ribbon with swallow tails and a triangular fold are held with a matching pink ribbon rose with light green loops. Cap #3 Cream colored rosette with swallow tail streamers decorate the lappets. The rosette is decorated with a tiny dark rose bow and matching ribbon rose. The white eyelet fabric has designs of leaves and swirls surrounding the round stitched eyelet. The edges of the cap and lappets are finished with matching ruffle eyelet lace. Short Lappets Cap #4: Sheer 100% cotton voile embroidered with floral designs and scattered leaf designs. The front edge is finished with embroidered scallops. The bottom edge of the cap and the band and lappets are edged with narrow scalloped floral lace. The lappets are decorated with lover's knots in narrow lavender ribbon formed into a puff. Each is decorated with a silk-look dark lavender flower with matching pearls. #5: Sheer 100% cotton voile embroidered with floral designs and scattered leaf designs. The front edge is finished with embroidered scallops. The bottom edge of the cap and the band and lappets are edged with narrow scalloped floral lace. The lappets are decorated with lover's knots in forest green picot edge ribbon with a pale green ribbon rose.#6: Solid white cotton fabric with scattered eyelets and three leaf designs for great hair coverage. The cap, lappets and band are edged with scalloped eyelet lace. The lappets are decorated with ruby grosgrain ribbon swallowtails with small, sheer ruby roses with green ribbon leaves. Ruffled#7: Lovely broderie anglaise with rows of open work scallops, a row of roses and two rows of 6 petal daisy designs and scattered embroidered polka dots. The face edge is framed by open work scallops. The cap is decorated with scalloped lace with a group of three eyelets in each scallop. The sides are decorated with pale pink satin ribbon puffs with lover's knots and a matching pink ribbon rose with green ribbon leaves. #8: Crisp white fabric embroidered with comma shapes (no openings in the fabric, so no hair will show). The cap is edged with a row of scalloped broderie anglaise and the crown is decorated with a double row of floral patterned ruffled broidery anglaise lace.
