Description: ANNUAL REUNIONof theHOME ASSOCIATIONatCopemish & Arcadia1901 -1903 - 1904 The population in Arcadia, Michigan was approximately 300 people when the Home Association was created in 1891 by the founding settlers themselves. A precursor to the modern Home Owner's Association that likely had a far more important task to oversee. Arcadia Township was organized in 1870 and was once a thriving tight-knit community whose livelihood was intrinsically tied to the existence and maintenance of the Arcadia Pier. Arcadia had already built schools, established districts, a connecting railroad to nearby towns, a church, tavern, and general store with a telephone line connecting Arcadia to Copemish only a couple years away by the time the government allocated funds to maintain the harbor via dredging. During the time the pier was in use and maintained by the government, Arcadia's population and commerce grew exponentially and it is around this time the Home Association was established. Eventually federal funds were cut and the pier fell in to disrepair relegating Arcadia's influence in and around Lake Michigan. Much of the information in this listing is made possible thanks to theArcadia Area Historical Society.
